Bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) and transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) ligands control diverse processes in embryogenesis, organ development, as well as the remodeling of mesenchyme derived tissues post-natally. Abnormal signaling via BMP ligands has been implicated in human cardiovascular disease, including a number of congenital vascular syndromes, as well as in acquired vascular disease.
The overall goal of The Vasculomorph Network is to discern the function of BMP and TGF-β signaling in normal blood vessel development and vascular disease. We are an international group of cardiovascular investigators based in Cambridge and London, U.K., Leiden, Netherlands, Boston and San Francisco, U.S.
